Bowel polyp concern

Hi

Just looking for a little advice please, I'm getting into my own head and was wondering if there’s any assurance out there

I'm a 31 year old female, I noticed a few weeks ago a spot around my anal area. I presumed this was a hemorrhoid or pile (never experienced either before) and used an ointment cream thinking it would go away.

The spot did not go away. I‘ve had no blood, just itchy when spot was first noticed. I then visited my GP last Thursday who confirmed it was neither a hemorrhoid nor a pile, and confident it was a polyp.

They put me on the 2WW, was going to do a FIT test but GP said no as it’s visible and that was enough to be put on the 2WW. He wanted me to do blood tests asap, they were booked for the next day but unfortunately were cancelled due to the snow.

I had my bloods done yesterday (full blood count, serum ferritin, liver function test, bone profile, urea and electrolytes and CA 19-9).

The results came back the same day, all normal apart from serum ferritin was low at 18, and says abnormal; contact patient.

I feel like I’m getting ahead of myself as my GP appointment was only 6 days ago, but I was wondering from peoples experience how long they waited for the appointment through the 2WW, and also was it within the 2 weeks or after?

I’m very concerned as it’s measuring around 1cm and is visible. A lot of examples I’m reading people have had more symptoms but nothing visible, where as mine seems the opposite but I can visually see it?

Thank you for any help.

  • Hi D2911,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I know it's never easy when waiting for appointments and results so I can understand your concerns.

Typically you should expect to receive the appointment within two weeks, though occasionally it can be a little longer. It very much depends on each hospital and area as to how quickly you are seen so it is difficult to be more specific.

It sounds like your GP is being thorough and that things are moving fairly quickly which, although it may also mean it feels more worrying, should mean you get the information you need before long.

While waiting some say it helps to try to keep busy and focused on other things as much as possible, to help distract from any worries. I know this can be easier said than done.

In the meantime hopefully you'll get more replies to your post here soon, particularly if others with similar experience see it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
