First Gynaecological Appointment Face to Face Only

Hi

Have been referred by the genes department (after having the BRAC1 and 2 test) to discuss a potential risk of endometrial cancer but its not in my local hospital and is in London. I am struggling to attend due to distance and have requested a telephone appointment but they have said that the first appointment has to be face to face. Has anyone else experienced this or should I insist on a telephone appointment?

Many thanks

  • Hello LMS69 and welcome to the forum.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're not able to have a telephone appointment at the genes department you've been referred to in London. This must be very frustrating.

If they're not able to do a telephone appointment, maybe you could ask if they would be willing, or able, to do online video appointment instead? If that isn't an option and there isn't any other way you can get to London, maybe you could find out if there is another hospital closer to you that you could be referred to instead.

I hope some of our members who have found themselves in a similar situation will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon, but if you're like to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses about this, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

I really do hope a compromise or alternative solution can be found so you're able to have your appointment and get more information on your situation.

    Kind regards,
