Breast infection

Hi ,10 weeks ago I woke up with very sore left breast,it got worse over the day, like infection mastitis when you breast feed, only thing I haven't breastfeed for over 12 years,I'm now in my late 40s and think menopause might be nearing.
I got seen by doctors straight away, she described me antibiotics,I didn't take them regularly as they made me ill ,but what I did take has helped enough for it to go or so I  ,I had also been booked in for emergency mammogram and that came back all clear.
That was 6 weeks ago now and infection is starting to come back ,not as bad as last time but niggling, seen doctors again since antibiotics sort of helping,it hasn't gotten worse but still there but only on day 3 of my antibiotics, just scared thought it was all clear and been discharged etc from breast clinic and now looks like I have to go back.
Anyone else had something like this please ?

  • Hello M.C

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns about your breast recently and that despite some antibiotics, the infection may be reappearing.

Do talk through your concerns about the antibiotics with your GP and the side effects that they caused last time. Hopefully if you're able to complete a full course this time, then it may clear the infection but don't be too worried if you're referred back to the breast clinic. As with many health issues, it's important to get these things checked and resolved sooner rather than later.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
