Moles photographed but I've now been given an appointment to see a dermatologist this Saturday. Should I be worried about the quick turnaround?

I have a mole on the front of my hand , I've had for years. Over the past few months this has started to turn lighter in the centre. Life continued on and I kept an eye on it, in October I made an appointment and got it looked at. My doctor said she wasn't to worried about it and I then mentioned one I had on my belly. She took one look at it and told me because the waiting list was so long she would red flag it for me and to try not to worry. I got a phone call to attend a telederm appointment for the 20th of November to have the two moles photographed. While waiting for the appointment I found another mole that almost looks like a nip to the skin which I had photographed also at the appointment. I got a phone call two weeks after getting my photos taken to say a dermatologist wants to see me and that they were extremely busy and they could offer me an appointment for Saturday 20th of December at half 8 in the morning. Should I be worried? Talking to family members have given me the option that sure they will cut it out if it is anything and that will be the end of it, am I overthinking things?.

  • Hi Lisa1984,

I just wanted to say hello and check how your appointment went as I think it was today? You did the right thing in getting this mole looked at as it's always important to get any changes in moles examined. What have they told you at your appointment?

I think you are in very good hands and it's important for these moles to be looked at for your peace of mind and I hope that they won't require any further investigation but if you need further tests try not to worry too much if you can. Do not worry about the quick turn around it's always better to get answers sooner rather than later.

Waiting for clarification or for a diagnosis is truly nerve-racking though and I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for news.

Many other members of our community have been there before and have had moles investigated in the past so I will let them come and say hello and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie

Appointment went well, she said she wasn't to worried about the mole on my stomach but did say she didn't like the colour of the one on my hand. She was going to take a punch biopsy but then decided to remove it via excision. Just a waiting game now for results but a wait of my shoulders. Thank you for replying.x
