Anxious about my dermatology appointment

Today I am off to see a specialist about the mole on top of my hand. I suffer from neurofibromatosis and when my doctor saw it she said I need to refer you immediately and that was just over a week ago which is quite good that they have acted very quickly on what they think maybe skin cancer. With my condition my lumps can become cancerous and if it is then I am not sure , what they will do as this has not ever happened to me. I am worried as I really thought it was nothing.  Does anyone have any advice on will happen on my  first appointment . Thanks

  • Hi Catlady2,

I noticed you hadn't yet received a reply so I just wanted to say hello and welcome you to our forum. How did the dermatology appointment go? It's good they have acted so fast and you got your appointment quickly even though I can imagine you must be feeling quite anxious at the moment as you are waiting for answers. I am glad that they are monitoring you closely and are aware that with your condition, lumps can become cancerous.

I hope that your appointment went well. Have they told you what the next steps might be?

Other members of our community may have been in your situation before and I hope that they will come and share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • The appointment was a bit of a disappointment, as all I saw was a nurse she took photos. And told me to keep the lesion open but the problem with that is the location of it , it does bleed a lot .iI keep it covered when at work as i am a carer. She said that I won’t hear anything for two weeks and there is no guarantee that who ever sees it will say it should be removed. I want it removed as it getting uncomfortable and worrying. My brother thinks it maybe be quicker going to see a specialist private. she also said to wash it with soap and water . I wish it wasn’t a disappointing appointment.
