Concerned, but no symptoms. Small mass found in bladder and I've been given an urgent referral to urology. What tests am I likely to have?

Been told I have  a very smalll 'outpouching' in my bladder. Suffered from a UTI in the summer, but have no symptoms of anything since then. Gp booked me in for an ultrasound to be on the safe side I imagine. That's what showed up this very small mass. Sonographer said it could be my normal physiology, but can't 100per cent rule out the possibility of cancer. I've been given an urgent referral to urology.

What kind of tests am I likely to be given? I feel as fit as a fiddle, and with no symptoms at all, I really don't want to go through invasive procedures if they are unnecessary.

  • Welcome to the forum MickeyG99 although I'm sorry to hear about the small mass that's been found in your bladder. I know this must be worrying.

We have some information about tests for bladder cancer on our website but if you would like to discuss your situation further with one of cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease about what will happen next.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will share their experiences and advice with you soon as well.

In the meantime, we're wishing you all the best with your referral and will have our fingers crossed the mass is no cause for concern.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks very much Steph. I'll call in the morning, and give you an update after my consultation on Thursday.

  • Hi this happened to me but I had a small amount of blood in my wee. Given my age 56 I was referred to Urology to rule out cancer and underwent a flexible cystoscopy where they found a tumour. I was then referred for a Turbt and had the tumour and a lesion removed for testing. I am currently awaiting these results from last week and its an anxious time but have to say it all happened so quickly. By the way I also had CT scan which didn't pick up anything so got the shock when they found the tumours. Wishing you all the best in your treatment
