Second diagnosis

Hello, I’m new here. I had a melanoma on my jawline two years ago. It was removed. I now have another melanoma in the same place. The first melanoma was removed without a statement of clear margins, but I was not called back for regular checks. Now this second melanoma. I’m thinking everything was not removed tge first time? And, if so, could it have travelled elsewhere? I’m really worried and any sensible thoughts would help. Thank you

  • Hello Bluebellblue and a very big welcome to our forum,

I can imagine it was a bit frightening for you to see another melanoma in the same place where the first one was removed. I am not sure why it may have come back but it is important to get in touch with your GP or your medical team and make them aware of the situation, that you feel it has come back and you are worried that everything was not removed the first time around.

If you want to talk things through with our cancer nurses, they may be able to give you further guidance so don't hesitate to get in touch with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I think the priority really if you haven't done so already is to make the medical experts aware of the fact that you feel this melanoma on your jawline has come back so that they can examine you as soon as possible and take action.

I hope you manage to speak to someone soon.

    Best wishes,
