Breast cancer

I've recently been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and it's also in my lymph nodes,  surgery has been booked for December but im really worried about developing lymphodemia as my lifestyle is very physical,  I also have osteoarthritis in my hips and spine and rely on my upper body strength to do the exercises that keep on to of the pains in my lower body, to the extent that im considering not having breast surgery.

As you can imagine my family and friends think im insane for even considering this, but they respect that it's my body, my choice.

I feel completely out of my depth with my emotions and im reaching out for help stop my mental health spiraling out of control .

  • Hi DJnani,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand that this is a difficult decision and it sounds like there's a lot to consider.

It's good that you have found the forum, as a place to write things down and reach out - particularly if it feels like it may be difficult to talk to those around you.

Do discuss your concerns with your doctor, if you haven't already, as it will be useful to get their thoughts about the position you're in.

We also have nurses available if you'd like to have a chat. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

We're always here for support on the forum whenever you may need it. Hopefully you'll get more replies to your post here soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
