Moles on feet removal

Hello everyone

I am having surgery on my feet to remove two moles that are suspected to be cancerous (I really hope not but am worried as they are on the soles of my feet) I have one on each sole of my foot and they are doing both at the same time.

Has anyone had this before as I'm just wondering about recovery time and if I will get a wheelchair or crutches as its one on each foot so am worried about moving around. Also I'm cabin crew so was told a 2/3 week sign off

Thank you for any responses. One nervous anxious stressed worried girl here!

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you are having both excisions at the same time. I was already a melanoma patient when I found a mole on the sole of one foot. The excision pain wasn't too bad but be aware that the anaesthetic is painful, for a few seconds! Because mine was just one foot I didn't need any crutches but I know some patients who have had crutches provided - I think that will happen with you. You must keep your feet up for 24 hours - preferably above your heart if possible - this is to ensure the wounds don't bleed & that they start to heal (I laid on the sofa with my foot on cushions on the armrest). I would think you will definitely need 3 weeks off work because of having 2 feet involved.

Although moles on the sole of the feet (and the palms of the hand) are always treated with more suspicion by clinicians, it doesn't mean they are definitely malignant. Mine wasn't & I know a few who have had benign moles removed from their soles. It's highly unusual to suffer 2 melanomas at the same time too, so hopefully yours will be fine, or at least one of them will be!

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
