Urgent referral to the breast clinic

Hey,

So I guess I just needed to write down my feelings & hope it makes me feel a little better! I'm 29 if this helps give a clearer picture.

I'm fully aware that the odds of anything sinister being found is slim which is great news and I'm hopeful on that basis.

About two weeks ago I noticed a patch of skin on the lower left side of my breast which is a darker shade of brown/purple with slight swelling underneath. I decided to go to see my GP on Monday 17th November just to get it checked as it hadn't gone & she examined me to then say she was sending an urgent referral to the clinic on a 2ww pathway as she didn't like the feel of it.

I have since read my doctors notes and they say the below:

'left breast outer lower quadrant, 1.5cm skin swelling, hyperpigmented, attached to the underlying swelling & aysmmetrical nodularity'

I'm aware we are not medically trained to comment on this, but as I say I'm just hoping putting my feelings down somewhere will help me to relax.

I have my appointment through for Wednesday 26th November so luckily not a long wait, just trying to keep busy so I don't worry about anything but it's difficult!

Best,

Hayley

  • Hello Hayley

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some concerns about your breast health. It's good to know that you've already been to see your GP and that you have an appointment at the specialist breast clinic in a few days. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

In the meantime, try to keep in mind that the majority of people seen in breast clinic do not go on to be diagnosed with cancer so hopefully, as you say, the odds are in your favour.

If there's anything you'd like to talk through with one of our nurses before your appointment, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Keep in touch Hayley and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
