Confused of Essex - Anyone feel like they need to self advocate to be taken seriously? I'm aiming to get bio plastic rebuild done on my vocal chords

Hiya.

I have had no voice for 8 weeks now. GP gave 2 lots of antibiotics. Nothing.

Private ENT ( would rather be skint than anxious) did nasolargyngoscope and said one side Voica chord complete palsied ( been like that since an intubation removal scraped and paralysed it several years ago) but now the one that was doing the extra work has also failed.

I had a foot op literally 4 days before it went, with a pop or so I felt, but surgeons assure me that local leg and foot anaesthesia couldn’t cause this. Had quite a lot of morphine post-op but that’s healing fairly well now.

ENT professor said he could see nothing sinister. But surely he can only see the front as the camera goes down, no?

So, going back today with a view to getting a vocal cords bio plastic rebuild on the knackered chord-I’m a teacher and really rely on my voice. Do you think he’ll give me a scan first?

my other symptoms are shortness of breath, absolute lethargy and lumpy feeling inside throat. I’ve had to change the way I position my tongue so I don’t choke when I’m drinking. Surely, that’s not right.

i don’t want to be passed off as ‘everything looks ok’ when clearly something has gone horribly wrong.

Anyone feel they need to self-advocate, hard, to be taken seriously?

Very, very anxious. It’s not just about an op to fix and restore the sound but I want to know what caused it so suddenly 8 weeks ago.

Thanks for being here, lovely people.

Comfort and healing to you all xx
