Nail melanoma

Hello…. I’m currently on Chronic Lymphocytic Leaukemia watch &wait.

I now find myself with a brown line on my index finger.

I had trauma of this finger last may. The nail came off and the new nail grew quite quickly. I then noticed a line appearing from the base of my nail. I kept watch on the line and it began the grow upwards. The line is brown with faded edges, wide at the bottom with a point. The line reminded me of  a candle flame shape.
The mark is now ( 5months later) 4/5 mm wide from the base to the top. The nail is thinner than my others and raised on the one side. I do get a throbbing pain occasionally.

Next Wednesday I have a photography appointment in a local hospital.

im pretty sure its a Melanoma.

I’m hoping it hasn’t spread..

Best wishes to all.

  • Hello Always123,

It's normal to be worried about this brown line on your index finger but try not to draw any conclusions yet as it could also be others things as well. It's good that you have this photography appointment in your local hospital and it's a good idea to be checked out sooner rather than later.

This is usually quite an unsettling  place to find yourself in and taking it one step at a time is a good strategy. When you see the specialist at the hospital, they will be able to tell you more.

For now, try if you can not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as you will have some definite answers soon.  Sometimes it can be hard not to worry especially when you are waiting to find out more so try and keep busy if you can and I hope the time between now and your appointment passes quickly as the wait for answers can be the hardest thing and it can seem never ending. While you are waiting, I will share with you our helpful tips on how to cope while waiting for news which I hope will help you get through the coming days.

I am keeping everything crossed for you and keep us updated if you get a chance on what it turns out to be!

Other members of our community may have had something similar before and I hope that they pop by and share their experience on your thread.

    Best wishes,
