2WW Bowel Cancer referral (FIT result >200)

Hello,

I posted on here back in June (I think) about a 2WW suspected melanoma referral. Thank you to the person who replied to me and I’m sorry I didn’t reply back. I had the mole biopsied and it came back as dysplastic but otherwise normal.

Unfortunately, I have been having problems with abdominal pain and nausea recently (nothing new but has gotten significantly worse since January) alongside some blood in my stool. After going back-and-forth to my GP over the course of this year, they carried out a FIT test which came back as over 200 :(

I am now waiting to be seen at my local hospital at the Urgent Suspected Cancer Lower GI clinic. I’m quite anxious as to what this entails. Please can anyone give insight as to what may happen at this appointment?

I’m only 24 so I’m hoping that the cause of my issues is something benign and easily treatable, but I can’t help but worry :(

  • Hi jezzyfish and welcome back to our forum,

I am pleased to hear that the mole you had biopsied came back as dysplastic but otherwise normal - that's really reassuring news and I am glad someone replied to you then and I hope you received support at a time when you were understandably anxious.

I am sorry to hear that you have had abdominal pain and nausea recently and that this has got worse since January and it's always important to have these things checked properly especially as you found blood in your stool. It's good they carried out a FIT test and it's important to remember though as you will read on our page on the FIT test there are many other reasons why you may have a raised FIT result and it doesn't necessarily mean it is cancer so try if you can not to worry too much.

It's normal to worry but try if you can not to look anything up online as this will only make you more anxious without giving you any reliable answers. It might be worth ringing our cancer nurses if you would like to find out more details as to what might happen during the appointment as I am sure they will be able to give you some guidance as to what to expect. They have a free helpline you can ring on this free number 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you won't have to wait too long to be seen at your local hospital and while you are waiting I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Other members of our community have been through exactly the same referral process and I hope that they will come along shortly and share their stories and experiences with you.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you that just like for the suspected melanoma referral, it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jezzyfish, I’m not much help but I had a fit test that came back positive so under the 2ww for a colonoscopy and that’s happening tomorrow, in 2 hours I have to drink the bowel prep, if yours is under the 2ww I’d have thought you’d hear very soon and im guessing it would involve a colonoscopy but as I said it’s only a guess. I do hope you hear soon as the waiting is awful. Good luck xx
