Hi Maggie, thank you so much for replying. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, it must be such a worrying time for you! 

I’m trying not to overthink and keep busy, but I find myself starting to do something then I just can’t focus and end up spiralling. I’ve heard they may go straight to ultrasound due to my age, but not sure what will happen at the appointment. I’ve been quite open about it, I got my partner to feel for it before I went to the gp as I wasn’t sure if I was just imagining it. I also work as a nurse and my team are being fantastic and keeping me sane while I’m at work. I guess that’s a curse though as I’ve seen so much which isn’t helping with the negative thoughts. 

I hope you don’t mind me asking, did you have any pain with your lump? 

Yeah, the waiting for your appointment is the worst part. Your GP has confirmed they felt the lump too, so now you are waiting to get all the checks. 

Im 43 so hadn't had a mammogram before but at the hospital I went to in Dundee, their one point appointment consisted of seeing a doc first who then put me for Mammogram (both sides) & ultrasound on the side where the lump is. Every hospital will undoubtedly run things slightly differently, but i got the impression both the mammogram & ultrasound are definites you will receive. 

Prior to finding my lump, there wasn't any pain, but after the appointment at the hospital I was feeling battered & bruised. I was told to take paracetamol & Ibuprofen. Since my diagnosis, i am extremely sore some days. I dont know if it's because I know for definite now that im so much more aware. 

I think trying to keep as busy as possible just now to distract yourself is best. I know its not easy, especially for you being a nurse. You will have seen so many things, but you need to try not to think worst case. 

Personally, for me, finding the lump, at that point I had a feeling deep down that it was bad. You know your own body so try go off what your body is telling you & not your head.

Yes, it’s that gut feeling you get. I’ve been unwell for a few months now with general fatigue/joint aches and brain fog. It so hard to tell if it’s general stress of life or I’ve been feeling unwell for another reason. 

i haven’t got long to wait for my appointment so hopefully will have answers on Friday. I will have to try and occupy my mind with some Netflix binges until then! 

our minds do like to play tricks on us and I just keep telling myself the fact I’m feeling most of this is my mind.

Yeah, i think from what you are saying, that sounds more like stress & general getting older. I was having a lot of things due to starting perimenopause so I knew they werent anything to do with that.

I think part of your anxiety is you're looking for answers like were there signs etc before i noticed the lump. It's hard not to do that, but try be kind & give yourself a break. You have done the hardest part by going to the GP straight away once you found the lump. Not everyone can do that as the fear takes over. 

Plenty netflix to keep you occupied is definitely required. Keep your mind busy.

HiMaggie82  so I had my appointment today, they have done an ultrasound and we’re uncertain what it is. I’ve had 3 biopsies taken so now it’s the waiting game. Hope you are okay?

Aww im sorry you had to get Biopsies. I got 3 taken aswell, but they implied at mine it was something sinister & would need definitely need some sort of treatment. Hold onto the fact they said they arent sure. 

Im doing ok, 2nd Chemo session on Mon. Feeling quite positive about it though. How are you holding up after today? It's a lot to process, just the different things you get & sitting waiting about, but at least its done now.

Yes, I’m holding on to the fact that if it looked malignant they would have told me. I’m quite sore tonight, told my little boy I’ve had a small operation so he doesn’t jump on me. 

Ahh I’m glad you’re feeling positive about it! I really hope you keep that feeling and it helps you through your treatment. 

I haven’t really had time to think about it but I’m sure it will hit me over the weekend. I’d convinced myself it was a cyst so was a little shocked today to find out it wasn’t. 

Its better to be safe than sorry. They arent 100% sure so best to double check. Yeah you will be pretty sore. I was told paracetamol & ibuprofen is ok to take. You'll probably notice you get a bit of swelling too so dont panic & bruising. 

Yeah, im staying positive. I need to for my daughters sake. Im too stubborn to just give up. 

They said to me the wait for the results will be hard, but i threw myself into as much work as i could to keep distracted. It seemed to help me. Do everything & anything to keep your mind busy.
