Baby has permanent swollen lymph node

Hi, my little boy has had a swollen lymph node for around 4 months, it’s is now nearly 2cms. It’s has grown nearly a cm on a month, and he hasn’t been poorly at all, I have seen a doctor and they weighted his and told me they are not happy with his weight, he is under weight for his age. He  doesn’t really have an appetite and will only really drink 2 oz of milk at a time. They seemed to think it might be a cyst and they requested an ultra sound just to make sure, but I’ve now be told it’s a lymph node. He seems to of changed over the last few months, it’s seems the weight and the lump appeared at the same time. His mood has changed, he used to be such a happy baby, but now just seems to cry. We wasn’t due to see the consultant at the hospital for a few months. I feel like this is far too long. I was told by a few different medical professionals that he needs to be seen urgently due to symptoms. He is 7 months old. anyone have any advice. Thank you

  • Hello Saged and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm so sorry to hear your little one is contending with a swollen lymph node and for the impact this is having on his health and mood. It must be so difficult to see him like this but hopefully his hospital appointment will be able to give you some much needed answers and peace of mind.

A lot of posts have been made on the forum by other worried parents who have been in a similar situation with their children, so you are not alone Saged, and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer their support and advice.

We also have a team of cancer nurses you can talk to on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and address your concerns whilst you wait.

This must be so tough Saged, but we are here for you and are sending all our strength and support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • I also forgot to add, the lump it’s hard and does not move at all. He has also started to become clammy/sweaty when he sleeps. His weight has was steady and he was following the 25th centile, he is now below the second and this has also seems to have happened since developing the lump. I am going to request an urgent review tomorrow and go from there.

  • Go back to your gp immediately and tell them of all the changes low weight and clammy could be cystic fibrosis symptom but they need to refer you for the test for baby

And dont take no for sn answer
