  • Hello dotty19606

I'm sorry to hear that your recent cervical screening results left you feeling so anxious. We know that many women feel upset and anxious when they are told that they have HPV with cell changes. I do hope that you were able to talk with the nurse yesterday and that they could offer you some reassurance.

We have some information about treating abnormal cervical cells on our website that you might find helpful. If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses then you're welcome to call them. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope things are resolved for you soon dotty19606.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

A few years ago I had a similar result. I got a call eleven days after my smear to say I had severe cell changes and needed to be seen by colposcopy. They booked me in for two days after which scared me because, in my mind, it must be awful if they want to see me so quickly. I was a mess for those two days but went along and had LLETZ which wasn’t anywhere near what I thought it would be - it was fine and I didn’t have any pain at all. They confirmed CIN 3 and I got a HPV negative result after my test of cure six months later. I have just had my routine smear today so I’m hoping it’s fine still. It really is frightening, but treatment is usually quick and simple and most people are fine afterwards. It’s very unlikely to be anything worse than cell changes which may or may not need to be treated right away, sometimes they leave it. It just depends on your biopsy results. You don’t even have to have the treatment right away; I had a choice, they said they could do the biopsy and do the treatment at a later date depending on the results if that’s what I wanted, I just didn’t see the point in waiting. I hope you’re okay

  • Can I just clarify though, although I took their offer of an appointment after just two days as a sign of how bad it was, the reality was actually they had a cancellation. Even when they offer you a quick appointment it doesn’t mean the worst, I just wanted to say

  • Aww thank you  I had my appointment come on Tuesday for the next day ( yesterday) I had a colposcopy and a few biopsy’s as she said there’s something else going on ♀️ I have to wait 8 was now for results x thank you for replying it’s made me feel a bit better that I’m not alone just got to wait now x

  • Hi how long did you wait to get next smear after test of cure? Is it five years as I have had all that and was normal test of cure but this morning woke to brown discharge and I have had no periods othing for two years

  • Hi I’m not sure either iv only just had my biopsy waiting for results but if it was me I would get in touch with your drs and explain to them I’m sure they will help sorry I can’t help you more ️
