Breast biopsy - sample was dense breast tissue. Biopsy being repeated on Monday.

Feeling confused! And googling too much!!
I had a breast biopsy done last week and have to go back to get another one done. The nurse said it was because the first one showed just dense breast tissue,

Anyone else had this happen?

  • Hi Oprahsjdkdj,

Younger women often have denser breast tissue, which can make it difficult to identify any cancerous lesions. It sounds as if your consultant is being cautious  and double checking. This does happen to some people and it is frustrating to have to wait for results again, but it is good to know that your care team are being so thorough.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine, Thank you for replying, I have been  very confused about it.

I had an appointment for the result on Wednesday but got called on Monday to sa that there was a delay - due to a backlog so would be Friday. Then got a call yesterday saying I would need further biopsy so apportionment changed again to Monday.
I wasn’t really sure if it was a good sign that it needs repeating or bad.
I thought was good as seemed to be saying no cancer found in that sample so need another sample.
but now I think it means that the sample was not of the right area.
do you know which it is?

so confused and feeling ill from having Covid and now I have an awful cough. Just feel so run down.

thank you for your help xx

  • Hi Oprahsjdkdj,

It is hard to say why they are doing another biopsy, as there could be a number of reasons for this. As you say, it could be that they didn't take the biopsy from the right place or the result could be borderline. I am not a doctor, so I don't know how these things work, but sometimes they do a different type of biopsy to make sure. I am so sorry to hear that you have had Covid and hope that your cough settles soon.

Try to hang on to the fact that nothing has been found so far. Keeping everything crossed that the result will still be the same after your next biopsy. Please let us know how you fare on Monday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
