Cancer referral - Thickened womb lining

Feeling bit overwhelmed at the moment - i recently had 3 heavy periods in 5 weeks and mentioned it to GP who booked me in for a ultrasound. I was surprised to get the appointment for this within a week.

Went for scan on Monday and yesterday got abnormal results of thickened womb lining…docs called today and were talking about cancer and have made a urgent referral to the Gyno cancer clinic for biopsy.

I wasn’t expecting anything to show up and this has literally come as a bolt from the blue. Shocked is an understatement.

im also petrified of the biopsy as I’ve always had painful (though normal) smears and have never had kids so the idea of this is freaking me out.

Apparently I should receive an appointment within 28 days, it’s all happened so quickly. Which is good but terrifying at the same time!

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns and that you're now waiting for an appointment with the specialist. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what may be going on for you.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. If it would help to talk with one of our nurses for some support and reassurance ahead of your appointment, you're welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, some of the community members who have experiences and support to offer will reply to your post soon. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
