Undergoing tests at present

Hi I’m very nervous at present, I’m 40 year old female, I’m having lower left abdominal pain on and off, I have one soft bowel motion a day , I have a feeling of a lump in that area also. I’ve been to my gp and she has done some bloods which have come back normal, a physical examination and says she can’t feel anything in my abdomen, I had 2 negative fit tests and a normal contrast ct scan of my abdomen and pelvis but because I still have pain and soft stools my gp said to have a colonoscopy, I due this next month and I am so anxious about the findings. When I’m feeling anxious I’ve noticed my pain level to be worse also.

  • Hello Jw34,

You are doing the right thing in having this lower left abdominal pain looked at and it's good that you have been to the GP about it and it's reassuring news that your bloods have come back normal, the CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis are normal and that the FIT tests were negative. It sounds like you have an excellent GP who is being very thorough and the colonoscopy will be the ultimate test to figure out what is going on and what may be causing these symptoms. You will find information on our website on the colonoscopy which will tell you more about how to prepare for a colonoscopy and what happens during the procedure. It's normal to be feeling a bit nervous about the test and the findings and it sounds like the stress of it is having an impact on your pain levels.

Try if you can not to worry too much and not to anticipate the worst as there are so many other things that could trigger your symptoms other than cancer and the colonoscopy will hopefully allow them to rule things out and to have a clearer idea as to why you are experiencing these issues. Waiting to have the test and then again for the results can be really stressful and I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Wishing you the best of luck for the colonoscopy and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
