Granulosa cell tumour - is this what my cyst could be? It was found a year ago and a recent scan has shown it's grown. I'm starting to panic

Im so sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I am panicking and can't find any kind of online forum to ask for info.

I started IVF, and at the first scan by my fertility clinic a little over a year ago, a cyst producing estrogen was spotted on my right ovary. No concern was raised. I then had my 1st scan and bloods to begin stimulant injections january 25, bloods came back at 11000 for estrogen and the cyst was still there so they told me to start next cycle when the cyst would likely go with my period. The cyst never left, bloods weren't retested, and they allowed me to begin next cycle. By egg collection, my estrogen was 23900, cyst still there and bigger, still no concern.

I fell pregnant, had a missed miscarriage last month, and during the scan, it was noted the cyst was still there, now measuring 106mm x 63 x 66. I've done the unthinkable and Googled, and GCT is all im getting. I've had this cyst over a year. it grew in size during that period, and it produces high amounts of estrogen. I made a GP appointment today, and all they offered was a telephone. Took the call, and it was a nurse, not a GP. She didn't seem concerned in the slightest and hasn't listened to me properly either. I've seen the notes on my record, and she has recorded that my miscarriage was last week, and this is when the cyst was noticed. She said she would put in a referral to gynae.

I can't help but panic that this cyst isn't just a cyst, and now I'm going to be waiting ages to be seen by gynae as the nurse has documented the info wrongly. Would anyone happen to know if I am ok just waiting this out? Or do i need to hound my doctors for an appointment with an actual GP and emphasise further my worry?

  • Hello Sarah199019 and a warm welcome to our forum,

Thank you for coming here and sharing your story with us. This cyst seems to have given you cause for worry especially as it grew in size and it is tempting in a situation like yours to resort to Google to try and get some answers so that you can put a name on that cyst that has given you cause for concern. However, as you pointed out Google is definitely not a good solution as it will never give you accurate answers or the right diagnosis. How frustrating that you didn't get to speak to a GP on the phone but to a nurse and it doesn't sound like you had the best experience on the phone. At least she has rightfully put in a referral to gynaecology and I hope that you won't have to wait too long to be seen. I think it might be worth getting in touch with your GP and mentioning that there have been mistakes on the notes so that they can rectify that and make the necessary changes. It would not hurt either to make an appointment with a GP so that you can explain everything fully and also get more clarity as to what the next steps might be and when you might be seen.

While you are waiting, I thought I would share with you these helpful tips on how to cope while waiting for news

I am keeping everything crossed for you that you get some answers soon and a definite diagnosis.

    Best wishes,
