Follow up biopsies needed?

I attended a routine mammogram at the age of 53 around a month ago. The results suggests that I need to attend the breast clinic for further tests. Attending last week and had further mammograms, ultrasound and 2 biopsies taken, with the use of ultrasound for correct location. I have now been told that the biopsies are normal but that the result is non-concordent? I need to attend for further biopsies, with clips and mammogram to confirm samples taken from the correct place. I'm worried sick. Any experience of this or advice please?

  • Hi Tlc301023,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that you find yourself waiting for further investigation and understand just how frustrating this can be. Try not to catastrophise - we are all different and what is normal for you may not be normal for everyone else. It is good news that the biopsies are clear and only time will tell what is "non-concordant". We have mammograms to catch cancer early, when it is more treatable, as so many people are unaware of anything being amiss.

If there is cancer present, there is nothing you can do about it. If it has been caught early, treatment should be straightforward. I know that this is of little help at the moment and just what an anxious time this is, even without the additional delays, but it is important that your care team get your diagnosis correct and do not miss anything. I hope that you get your additional biopsies and mammogram soon. Please keep us updated with how you get on. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news. in the meantime, we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
