Haematology appt

I have a haematology appointment tomorrow. I had a CT scan 2 weeks ago and they found enlarged lymph nodes in my chest. Dr said it could be either sarcoidosis or lymphoma.

i’m just wondering what bloods etc they will take? Have a respiratory appointment next week which for some reason I feel more nervous about.

I also have a lump on my breast so been referred to breast cancer clinic. I assume I should mention this at both appointments too?

Thank you.

  • Hello Ms_D

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently going through some additional tests and appointments following a recent CT scan, which noted enlarged lymph nodes in your chest. It's understandable that you've been feeling anxious about things.

How did your appointment with the haematology team go yesterday? I hope that they were able to offer some information and reassurance about the next steps in this process.

We know that for many people, this period of uncertainty while waiting for more tests and results can be really difficult. If it would help to talk with one of our nurses at any point, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Keep in touch Ms_D and let us know how you get on over the next few weeks. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn

    Thanks for your reply.
The appointment went well. She asked about my health history and everything that has been going on this year. She had no record of the breast cancer referral which I was surprised about. She said my symptoms don’t really point to lymphoma but because the enlarged lymph nodes are in my chest it’s not as easy to do a biopsy. They’re in the middle of my chest near my lungs but I don’t have any breathlessness or chest problems which is a positive.  She was having a meeting yesterday with other consultant’s so was going to mention my case. I got lots of blood taken and some have already came back with everything looking normal. My FBC, ESR etc haven’t come back so I’m interested to see the ESR as it was high earlier in the year. It’s just a waiting game at the moment to see respiratory this Friday and still waiting on breast cancer. Unfortunately I’m in Northern Ireland and breast cancer is up to 6 weeks wait. Our cancer wait times are the worst in the UK.
It put my mind at ease a bit until I go into a panic this Friday for respiratory! It’s been almost 3 weeks since my breast cancer referral so my GP said to call them after 4 weeks if I haven’t been given an appointment.
