Hello,
I have a lump on my upper gum that appeared a few weeks ago, I went to the emergency dentist thinking it was an abscess. They did an x-ray and said it was some kind of boney cyst/growth..They referred me urgently to the dental hospital. However due to delays in our area I haven't had an appointment through (I've been told it could be 6 weeks or more) so have used my private medical insurance, seen a consultant maxiofacial doctor and had a facial bones CT scan today.
I'm worried it could be cancer, my father had primary bone cancer. I am 33 so know it is rare.
The lump has widened and grown slightly since first appearing about 3 weeks ago. The gum over it has a white patch too.
The lump was painful and ulcerated at first but now is just a bit tender to touch abd generally slightly achy.
I'm struggling to find anything about upper gum lumps that face outwards. Usually cysts or benign boney growths are on the bottom gum or face towards the back of the mouth.
I have an appointment next Wednesday for my results but am going to be so anxious waiting for them. Will the consultant call me earlier if it is something nasty?
Sorry just needed to put all of this down somewhere
