We've got an urgent referral to ENT but are due to fly on holiday my mind is in turmoil. I've heard we wouldn't be entitled to a refund as its not diagnosed. Im wondering if we would be safe to fly, I forgot to ask gp

Hi Jewel243,
It's difficult to know what to do in a situation like this as you have a flight booked and want to be able to enjoy your holiday but you understandably have this fear at the back of your mind and it's important I think that you find out all the details before your trip so that if you decide to go away you can go with complete peace of mind. I think it might be worth getting in touch again with your GP or your GP surgery and talking to the receptionists maybe and explaining that you forgot to ask the GP this important question - if it is safe for you to fly or if they recommend you postpone your trip.
Another important question you might need to look into is travel insurance - you haven't had a diagnosis yet but you are going through investigations so it's important to check with your travel insurance whether you would be covered (or not) while you are on a waiting list and going through the referral process. You will want to make sure you know what medical cover you could get if something happened while you are abroad and you needed medical care.
Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you wanted their guidance on anything - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Other members of our community might have been in a similar place before and you might benefit from their insights on this and I hope that they will pop by and share their story with you.

Hi Jewel
Lucy has made important points. Check with GP if its ok to fly and check your insurance cover. Urgent referral usually means 2 to 4 weeks. So you will likely be home again from your holiday before you get an appointment. A holiday is really important for you at this worrying time and will be really beneficial for your wellbeing. Go if you possibly can.
