I am sorry to hear that you recently lost your mum to cancer and understand your own concerns. Did you tell the receptionist what you wanted the appointment with your GP for? They usually see you quite quickly if they know the reason. If you haven't already done so, please contact them again and tell them that you need an urgent appointment. 

I lost my own mum to secondary breast cancer and was terrified when I got a cancer diagnosis 16 years ago. I had a second cancer diagnosis within just under a year from my initial diagnosis and had a double mastectomy. I still lead a busy and fulfilling life despite this. Treatments have improved immensely in the interim and there was just no comparison between the treatment that mum and I had. Even more headway has been made since I was diagnosed. You are doing the right thing by getting this investigated and I hope that you manage to see your GP soon and can get some answers.
