11cm cyst with thick septations - worried

Hi all

I am 50 years old and 14 months post menopause.

Last wednesday I woke up with heavy bleeding and period like cramps. Thinking not much of it I contacted GP expecting them to say its normal to have the odd bleed now and then but nope - she mentioned the C word and that i needed a scan. Got a scan the next day, where they found my womb lining is thick at 5.7 and also an 11cm cyst with 'thick septations'. Everything i'm reading online tells me its high risk of cancer. Just waiting for gynea appointment but i'm worried sick. I first went to GP with bloating (look 6 months pregnant most of the time!) which was in turn causing really bad heartburn and ive been on lanzoprazole for over 4 years because nothing I try has gotten rid of the bloating and heartburn. I've been exhausted to the point of fighting for last couple of years to get chronic fatigue diagnosed and lower back pain. I've been gaslit and turned away and told its my diet or i need to just get more active. I was very active prior to all this.

Now i'm imagining having this thing growing inside me for god knows how long that could very well be cancerous and how long ago should this have beren checked?

  • Hello Jaxvent

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been referred for an appointment with the gynaecology specialists following some abnormal bleeding and an ultrasound. It's understandable that you're feeling very anxious at the moment.

We know that people often turn to the internet for information when they have health concerns. What happens most often is that they are left feeling even more worried and still without any firm answers. If you can avoid reading online for the moment, this may help.

Have you been told how long you might have to wait for your appointment? Hopefully, it won't be too long before you see the specialist, and they can give you some reassurance. In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on Jaxvent. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
