Post menopausal colposcopy

Morning! Just joined to check out menopause & pre/ diagnosis.

I'm post menopause, no periods for ten years then, boo!.. colposcopy brought on slight bleed, slight period pain and definate grumpiness!! I was given local anesthetic for biopsy and, although the consultant was reassuring it was probably low level abnormal,  he sent a polyp and cells off to the lab. (Nothing to worry about until there's something to worry about). Procedure was well executed, all very professional, kind and informative.

My question is, are there many cases post menopause? Is the treatment for HPV, abnormal cells or cancer any different?

My best wishes to all the youngsters who have to go through so much worse than I ever will xxx

  • Hi Jach and welcome to the forum.

I'm glad your colposcopy went well although I'm sorry about the anxious wait you now have to found out your results.

We do have some information about treatment for HPV and abnormal cells on our website but I don't know whether the treatment changes if you're post menopausal. Our team of cancer nurses would be able to answer your question though, so if you'd like to speak to them about this they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to support you and give you any further information and/or advice you are seeking at this time.

Hopefully some of our members of a similar age who have been in this position will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Jach and will have our fingers crossed for a good news when your results come through.

    Kind regards,
