Waiting diagnosis of Vulval Cancer

I have had symptoms for some time but was told it was nothing to worry about and was given steroid creams that never worked. I finally went to the Doctor yesterday and got an appointment at the hospital today. I’m really worried and stressing out about the results and don’t know what to do or think. The fact that the appointment was within 24 hrs, I’ve had the symptoms for over a year and pain and discomfort is now almost unbearable makes me worry more that the news is going to be bad.

I guess everyone goes through this. I just don’t know what to think and the waiting is making it worse

  • Hello etcnel,

I can imagine this is such an anxious time for you especially as you were told it was nothing to worry about for so long but the steroid creams never worked. You did well to go back to the doctor's and even through it is super stressful for you at the moment, it's good that things are moving fast. It's normal to worry in your situation but try if you can not to anticipate the worst or what it might be - but the important thing is that you finally get some clarity on what is causing these symptoms and I hope it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

Many members of our community will be able to relate to how you are feeling at the moment having been through this before. As you say the waiting often makes the anxiety worse and the best thing to do if you can is to stay well away from the temptation to look things up online as this will only make you feel worse without providing any concrete answers. We have helpful tips to help you cope while waiting which I hope you will find useful in the coming days.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you,
