Nodes in groin and B symptoms

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing B symptoms for a while now but they have rapidly got worse in about the last 2 months (extreme fatigue, lost 62lbs since Feb (started first), breathlessness, diffuse chronic abdo pain, back pain, bone/joint pain, headaches, pallor, dizziness, starting to get the odd evening and night sweats but not drenched). Originally went to docs as every time I stood up I was dizzy and greying out, thought maybe blood pressure and fatigue but vitals all looked ok and no change in BP sit to stand.

Because of the weight loss and fatigue she took bloods, and 1 of my liver enzymes was raised (ALT). Repeat liver panel showed it had just come down into normal range but my Ferritin was high at 418. Genetics ruled out Haemochromatosis. In a month my ferritin had risen to 482, HB just dipped below normal to 118 (usually sits around 120-122 which is borderline anyway) and my reticulocytes were only 37 showing my bone marrow wasn't responding correctly to the anaemia. Nutrient deficiency/iron deficiency anameia was ruled out because of the high ferritin and also I already have iron tablets and a B12 injection 3 monthly and have done for years. I've had no signs of infection, vitals have all remained stable, in fact WBC count and LY count were low at one point and are still borderline although within range. CRP normal. I've since had a set of bloods that my HB shot up to 131 but I'm feeling terrible so that makes no sense. Platelets have remained stable but the doctors keep saying my bloods are "fine" when they aren't, okay they aren't absolutely wild, but they aren't fine and I certainly don't feel fine.

I have 1 small node on back of neck not doing anything, but bilateral clusters in groin about 3 on each side that are palpable and bigger than one on neck. None are painful. Chest sounds clear despite ongoing cough and breathlessness. Been given anti sickness and buscopan to help with the nausea and abdo pain as struggling to eat. Back pain never goes away and sometimes at night I get deep deep pain in hips/thighs like a bone pain but that isn't all the time.

I believe the GP put me on the 2WW pathway as I've got a CT Chest/Abdo/Pelvis with contrast on Thursday this week. I know in myself something is wrong because this time last year I was up at 6am, out for a walk by 7am and doing easily 5-8 miles per day, eating was healthy but good and I was maintaining a steady weight. Now I am exhausted constantly, pale as a ghost, in pain all the time and have generally never felt so rubbish. All my research is pointing towards potential Lymphoma (although I know there can be differential diagnoses) but what are your guys opinion? I'm not asking for diagnosis just any similarities or ideas. I just want to start feeling better this is torture.

Sorry for long post. Thank you for reading.

  • Hello Floblo and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and how you're feeling. When youre worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to want answers fast or think the worst but this only has a negative impact on your wellbeing. There's no way of knowing until your doctor can get to the bottom of things, but I hope the guidance on suspected cancer referral we have on website, could help you feel more prepared.

All the best for your appointment on Thursday and let us know how it goes,
