Positive FIT test and failed colonoscopy

Hi all,

I am new here, I am a 30 year old male with Austism, osteoarthritis and dehydrated disc disease.

Back in April I had  stroke like symptoms and was taken to hospital via ambulance, nothing was found wrong at A&E and left without knowing what happened. this has happened again a few times since and have also gained a tremor in my right hand along with weakness in my right leg.

I have also been experiencing irregular bowel movements. some days I will have no bowel movements and other days I will have multiple diarrhoea movements.

I will also add that I have been feeling a loss of appetite and lack of interest in food, but have persisted in ensuring I am still eating regularly as normal. But have lost over a stone in weight since May.

fast forward to August, my GP done a lot of blood tests which all came back as sufficient or normal, they also carried out a FIT which was positive.

I had a failed colonoscopy a week which has left me traumatised and feeling very low due to how I was treated and my experience.

I now have a CT colonoscopy booked for next Tuesday and have been struggling a lot mentally since my GP referred me and in a constant feeling of helplessness and confusion.

if you have read this far, thank you for taking the time as I know I have a tendency to waffle (or so I am told) and I am unsure what I plan on gaining from this post, but I guess if anyone has had similar experiences/symptoms and what the outcome was or if anyone is currently going through and feeling the same.

  • Forgot to add I have a positive FIT result of 44ug/g

  • Hello CF1995

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health problems which have needed further investigation and that the team were unable to complete your recent colonoscopy. It sounds like it's been a difficult time.

It's good to hear that the team have arranged a different test for you, and hopefully the CT colonography that you have booked for Tuesday next week will bring some answers and reassurance.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our team of nurses beforehand, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support.

Do let us know how you get on next week.

    Best wishes,

  • Hey Jen,

Thank you for reading and responding my post.

I will update after I get the results of the CT, fingers crossed.

I did get a call from the hospital regarding an email I sent about how the colonoscopy went and they advised it could not be completed due to an acute bend in part of my colon (why they couldn’t tell me this before they discharged me I don’t know)

in regards to the helpline, I have considered it but with the ASD I get severe anxiety regarding talking and phone calls, especially with someone I don’t know.

    kindest regards
