Borderline U3 thyroid nodule

in 2017 I had my right side removed following inconclusive FNA, they found a large benign nodule and a smaller 8mm nodule which turned out to be a cancer. Nearly 9 years on and after yearly scans on my right side, monitoring 3 nodules I am back in the same position. 2 nodules benign but a borderline U3 at 9mm it has been growing about 1mm each year. I’m scared that the results of the FNA will be inconclusive and then I’ll need to decide whether to remove my remaining thyroid to find out for sure, or just wait a year and continue to worry what is growing inside of me.

  • Hi Kcov and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I'm so sorry to hear that another suspicious thyroid nodule has been found 9 years after the last one. This must be a very scary and worrying time but I'm glad you reached out to us as we will do all we can to support you whilst you wait.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position will share their stories and advice with you soon but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They are very knowledgeable and will do all they can to address your worries and concerns.

We'll thinking of you Kcov99 and will have our fingers crossed the FNA is able to provide some conclusive results that bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,
