Bleeding after sex

Hi, I went to the drs recently as I was having pelvic pain, pressure (only way I can explain how it feels is like my waters are about to break - I'm not pregnant!) bloated, feeling full and no appetite. My nan has ovarian cancer so I'm always overly cautious. She asked lots of questions and I had a blood test, standard one and ca125, FIT test and one for a bacteria I think, pelvic and abdominal scan. All came back clear other than a simple cyst on my kidney.

I had LLETZ treatment in 2023 after three HPV positive smears and then abnormal cells. After biopsy I had CIN3. LLETZ worked so back to normal smears now. When I saw the Dr she did look as I have felt a very small lump on the wall of my vagina. She wasn't worried about that said it was tiny, referred to it as a spot. Looked at my cervix and said it looked ok.

I've now been bleeding after sex, I don't think I need to go back to the drs as I only saw her about a month ago and have had all the tests recently. Surely if it was anything to worry about it would have shown up on the internal scan? I'm just wondering what it could be, I'm 43 have had 3 children and I'm regular as clockwork with my periods.

  • Good morning,

If it were me, I would just call and ask. It doesn't hurt to get it checked.

It's probably nothing at all, but far better to get that reassurance than to have a niggling doubt in the back of your mind.

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

Symptoms can be worrying but it is reassuring that your GP has run a series of tests that have all come back okay.

Unfortunately as our bodies get older and as women approach the peri/menopause in their 40's it isn't unusual to start to notice some changes. It is important to get them checked out of course but often there is a harmless cause.

It would be unusual for something to have changed in the past few weeks to now be causing some bleeding after sex. Often this can happen because of some vaginal dryness or an ectropian ( however as your cervix was examined I would have thought the doctor would have mentioned any redness if there) but I would see how this goes.

If the bleeding continues or you remain worried I would make another appointment with your doctor just to be on the safe side.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
