Panic in overdrive - sympathy and reassurance welcome

Hi all,

I've recently experienced severe lower back pain that lead me to contact my GP. They wouldn't see me, but referred me for physio.

I have numerous other potentially concerning symptoms that they dismissed. I have tried twice to get an appointment and will try again tomorrow.

All the symptoms could be so easily explained by other conditions but I was silly and took to Google, and now I've convinced myself I have ovarian, endometrial and bowel cancer, with the possibility of anal cancer thrown in.

I know I'm being daft, and I really need to see my GP, but I can't seem to get my anxiety under control.

Any tips from those that have been there, or just a reassuring virtual hug?

Thank you x

  • I managed to see a nurse practitioner today who was very nice, and reassured me that I wasn't being silly, or wasting her time (although I do still feel a bit daft).

I have two bowel samples to take, and I'm booked in for a blood test in two weeks.

I was kind of hoping she would tell me my fears were completely unfounded and no tests were needed, but then I suppose she wouldn't be doing her job.

Just got to try and keep my anxiety in check until the results are back

  • Hi GlitterB we all panic and jump to worst case scenario!  I am on a 2 week suspected cancer referral for possible endometrial cancer - saw my GP on 17 July so it's well over 2 weeks.  I've had a smear test, bowel cancer test and ultrasound.  The smear and bowel cancer were both clear and I have a hysteroscopy on Monday.  Keep pushing the Dr's and write down your symptoms if that helps.  Don't let them fob you off!  Good luck and hope all goes well x

  • Hi Tessmum, thank you for replying.

The practitioner was really good, and didn't try to fob me off. I'll have to see what happens when the results are back. I did go in with a list, which was just as well as I was a blubbering wreck!

I hope your hysteroscopy goes as well as it can, and fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

  • Thank you x  Glad you managed to see someone who was sympathetic.  I'm lucky I have really good GPs.
