Found 15cm mass covering both ovaries

Hi I have just found out I have a 15cm mass with solid parts covering both ovaries . I also have asiites in abdomen. I have a ca125 of 79 but all other tumour markers are negative. I have had a ct scan and there is nothing anywhere else it is confined to the pelvis . I realise I will need surgery but could this be a dermoid cyst and still have ascites ? I’m driving myself mad looking everything up all the time .thanks

  • Hello Stick

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been told you have a mass that is covering both your ovaries and that, alongside this, you are struggling with ascites. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about what may be at the root of these issues.

We know that many people turn to the internet for information when they have questions about their health. We also know that what happens very often is that people don't find answers but instead are left with more questions and more anxiety. If you're able to avoid searching online for answers, then hopefully it will help you feel less worried.

In the meantime, I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for your surgery and the team will be able to give you some reassurance once the post-op results are back.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello so ca125 can be raised for all sorts of reasons like endometriosis which can cause endometrias which are cysts on the ovaries. And endometriosis can cause fluid in the abdomen. Unfortunately if you Google ca125 it says its a cancer blood test, but non cancer causes can cause it to be elevated too.

  • Thankyou such a frightening time all round this was all found totally by accident . I’m back next week at the hospital but I have no clue on waiting lists or anything like that . I totally get there will be other people before me . Symptoms are getting worse though as it pushes on other organs . Quite painful

Yes its not worry about nothing. Something has caused it. I just wanted to offer some assurances that it doesn't mean it is cancer and that there are other potential reasons. Good that you have an appointment for next week already. Hopefully they can give you an idea of what it is or what the waitlist is etc.
