Anxious and worried

Hi. I'm a 45yo female and a couple of months ago noticed a little blood in my poo. Then, a change in bowel habits.

Last week, I had a FIT test and yesterday I was contacted to say it was positive with a score of 237. My blood tests all came back clear. I have been put on the 2 week cancer pathway for a colonoscopy. My grandfather died of lung cancer at 90 and my uncle of skin cancer at 40.

To add more pressure, we fly to Majorca tonight for 10 nights (me, my husband and our 14yo and 11yo daughters)

I feel sick with worry and so anxious. Timing could not be worse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    1. Life throws curve balls at us when we really least want them doesntbit? but the most important thing is you got yourself checked out asap and you are going to be seen very soon
    2. It is completely understandable to feel anxious and Im sure you will until you have more information / waiting is hard try to take one day at a time
    3. I hope you are able to find some rest from the worry whilst away .....see it has a chance to recharge before your next appointment.
    4. You will get thru whatever comes sending strength. RB.
  • Hi I'm not sure this will stop you from worrying because I've had 2 Colonoscopies ,one a few months ago and despite the fact people telling me it was far more likely to be something far less sinister than cancer I still worried because we are programmed to worry ,despite my fit test result being a lot lower than yours I have read of results higher than yours not turning out to be cancer and that the Doctor is ruling cancer out rather than ruling it in with the Colonoscopy ,so many internal problems could cause a high fit result ,mine turned out to be Diverticulitis which is very common ,also some internal hemeroids ,it could be a polyp I had a couple of those also ,the good thing is you are being tested and it will put your mind at rest ,nothing can change the results of what is going on so try to enjoy your holiday and deal with it all when you get back x

  • Sadly, shortly after arriving at our hotel earlier, I've had a massive panic attack and feel very anxious and uneasy in my stomach and chest. I just can't stop thinking about worst case scenario and that I should have stayed home to be seen sooner. Hospital called today whilst we were on coach transfer from airport and my colonoscopy is booked for 1st September as I need a week of no fibre etc before procedure and we're away until next Saturday ... should have stayed home, then could have been seen a week on Monday ... had a bowel movement a hour ago with blood in bowl and on tissue. My stools are pellet like, solid

  • Hi I'm so sorry to hear that you had a panic attack, that must have been very scary ,in hindsight it might well have been better to cancel your holiday until you found out what if anything is wrong ,but like I said nothing will change the fact you will be having a colonoscopy when you return ,a week or so later is not going to change anything ,the good thing is that your bloods were fine that is a positive and the time Ive been on this site I've found people who had a Colonoscopy were much more likely to get a good result than not and even those who had a diagnosis had their treatment and are back to normal ,the treatments these days are so good , try to keep occupied with your children until you get back ,if you feel you want to come on here and chat anytime I'm available and will see your post ,take care Jenny .
