What questions should I ask GP

Hi everyone

I have an appointment on Saturday after blood tests and ultrasound to investigate my right side flank/ hip area pain

i have seen blood test results and red blood cells high and platelets low.

ultrasound apparently showed a cyst on spleen that doesn’t need treatment but nothing to say what pain is .

thought I heard radiographer say spleen measured at 19 cm but could be wrong.

I had to ask for this appointment as my pain is still there

and I am annoyed at myself for not questioning radiograther when I felt she missed area as I thought she would go back or see from different angle.

dr google ( I know) is pointing to blood cancer and bone marrow but I don’t want to appear crazy asking questions.

any advice would greatly help me.

 Thanks

  • Hello Jodiekid

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns recently and that despite some initial investigations, you're still dealing with pain and have lots of unanswered questions.

As you've already discovered, Dr Google very often points people to a worst-case scenario, so try to avoid it if you can. Instead, write down all the questions that you already have ready for your appointment tomorrow with your GP. Hopefully, by discussing all your concerns and worries with the GP, they will be able to give you some reassurance.

If you think it might help to chat things through with one of our nurses before your appointment, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Hopefully, you will get some clarity tomorrow. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you, I just not sure on questions to ask apart from repeating blood tests and to point out other symptoms that I don’t think have been recorded.

Was going to just leave it and deal with the pain as it probably nothing but my mum was wrongly diagnosed 3 times before diagnosis of bowel cancer and by then it was too late for treatment. And I am aware of the extremely high rate of

This in my area. I will write a few bits down to discuss, hopefully the doctor has time to listen

    to them.
