Colposcopy after hysteroscopy

Hi. I have had abnormal vaginal bleeding for a long time. I recently had an hysteroscopy and a polyp removed. . The biopsies have come back as benign. During the procedure the gynaecologist noticed my cervix was bleeding and I have been referred for an urgent colposcopy. My latest smear test was normal.
I’m really worried and do not understand why I would have been referred for this with my last smear test being ok. Any support or advice would be really appreciated. Thank you

  • Hello slk1973 and a warm welcome to our forum,

I can imagine it has been a worrying time for you experiencing this abnormal vaginal bleeding all this time. It is reassuring that the biopsies you had came back as benign but I guess you now have the new worry of being referred for an urgent colposcopy after they noticed your cervix was bleeding. It is good news though that your latest smear test was normal and I am not sure why you would have been referred but it sounds like they want to look at your cervix more closely and find out what is causing the bleeding.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our forum who have experienced similar symptoms before and had to have a colposcopy despite having a normal smear. It helps sometimes to hear from the experiences of others who have been through something similar.

Keeping everything crossed for you that you won't have to wait too long to have the colposcopy, that they manage to get to the bottom of what is causing the bleeding and that it all resolves soon and and turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
