Advice on Asymmetrical tonsils

Hello

I would like to first mention I do have anexity, however I'm not sure how to stop thinking about my asymmetrical tonsils.

I've been the doctors which fobbed me off. I'm currently waiting for a second opinion, and I'm hoping for a referal to the ENT. However my second opinion is in a month's time.

I know tonsil cancer can be fast growing which is why I'm stressed.

Now moving on, my question is can you have asymmetrical and lumpy tonsils and it not be cancer?

I'm 24, never smoked, don't really drink anymore and my diet is fine. I have okay oral health but used to have poor oral health.

My tonsils have always been lumpy and weird looking. They are also quite large.

My right side is bigger then my left side but other then that I don't really have any other symptoms.

I do get quite bad tonsil stones and suffer with post nasal drip. I have had sore throats from big tonsil stones and I have been getting more recently.

It is a bit red but I don't think I've ever seen my tonsils not red.

But yeah I'm very stressed... And worried. I'm trying not to though. I guess I just need some comfort right now.

I hate my mind

  • Oh I should also mention I do suffer with alot of tonsillitis and strep throat I've also had a rare type of strep throat called strep G before.

  • Hello Fiona_is_here7

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with anxiety regarding your tonsils. It sounds as if this has become quite a problem for you and it's understandable that it may feel overwhelming at times.

It's good to hear that you have another appointment with a different doctor in a few weeks. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance. There is some information on the NHS website about health anxiety, but do talk with your GP about the struggles you're having as well.

If you'd like to discuss things further with one of our nurses, they're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0808 800 4040. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can.

I hope you can get the reassurance you need soon.

    Best wishes,
