85 year old mum is poorly and has so many symptoms of bowel cancer. I'm so worried about her

Hello. My dear mum who is 85 years old has so many symptoms of possible bowel cancer. She has had problems with her bowels for 10 weeks, pain in her stomach. Blood in her poo and has lot so much weight, she now weighs 7 stone. The doctors thought it was constipation and put her on laxatives for a few weeks. She now has extremely loose bowels. I took her back to the doctors and they are arranging a colonoscopy and have referred her to the cancer team. Im so worried about her and I'm trying to act normal when I'm with her. My concern is why would they be sending her to the cancer team before they know exactly what is wrong with her. The final word from her doctor was ' this really isn't good '
