Panicking - pus filled lesions found on cervix. Been referred for suspected gynaecological cancer and have my colposcopy tomorrow

Hi, I was invited to go in for a pelvic exam almost 2 weeks ago as I have irregular bleeding (only began after having the Depo injection)

My doctor said it was probably down to a change in hormones after pregnancy and the depo. She did an exam and found “pus filled lesions” on my cervix.

I asked if I should be worried for anything sinister and she said I don’t think so but I will send you to have them checked as they may want to keep an eye on it.

I remember feeling bumps on my cervix a while ago but had no idea it wasn’t normal. I am having a colposcopy tomorrow and am majorly stressing that I am going to have cancer.

when I looked on my notes she said “no invasive lesions”multiple pus filled lesions on cervix. but I have been referred for suspected gynaecological cancer.

Why would I be told she doesn’t think I need to worry if I’m referred for that? Is it standard practice?

Any help would be appreciated

  • Hi Katiejn and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about the lesions that were found on your cervix and for the stress and worry this, and the referral you were given, have been causing.

I can see you had your colposcopy the other day. I hope it went well and you were able to get some much needed answers and peace of mind but if anything was mentioned at your appointment that you would like to discuss further with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members will stop by soon to offer their support and advice as well but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Katiejn and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
