23 and urgent cancer referral

I went to the GP on Tuesday due to some abnormal bleeding, cramping and loss of appetite. They took my bloods to test for CA 125, which has come back at 43, so they've done an urgent fast track referral to gynaecology for an ultrasound. They haven’t told me any of this, I found out through the app and just now when the hospital called me.

I'm terrified. I’m 23, and have a 10 month old baby. My appointments been booked in for Tuesday and it’s all that’s on my mind. They’ve checked for endometriosis before and there was none, and also had a c section which didn’t pick up anything wrong that they could see. I’m just so scared everything’s going to be taken away from me.

  • Hello Chloesss,

You did well to go to the GP on Tuesday after you experienced abnormal bleeding, cramping and loss of appetite. It's good that they have been thorough and did these blood tests for CA125 but try not to worry too much if you can. As you can read on this page from our website on the CA125 blood test, a raised CA125 can be caused by a number of conditions but it's good that they are carrying out all the necessary investigations so that they can get to the bottom of what is causing these issues.

Try not to worry too much if you can and best of luck for your appointments on Tuesday - I hope that you will get a bit more clarity soon. Waiting for results is not easy and it's easy to fear the worst but it's best if you can not to anticipate what it might be and to just wait for these answers. Having an urgent fast track referral doesn't mean you are going to be diagnosed with cancer and I hope that the information we have on our website on urgent suspected cancer referrals will reassure you. I will also share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been in a similar place before with the same symptoms and that they will share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
