CA125 Test Result

After having some pelvic pain over a few weeks, my doctor advised I should have a scan and a blood test. I'm still waiting for the scan and feel very anxious, especially as I've been through menopause already.  My CA125 blood test came back with a low number, and the practice nurse said that was good news. Now I've read that the test is not accurate and that you can still have cancer with a low reading. Why would the nurse mislead me like that? I can't sleep and don't know what to believe anymore

  • I'm sorry to hear how anxious you're feeling at the moment daydreamer99.

A lot of members within our community have had the CA125 test so hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

I hope this information I've found about the CA125 test will help address some of your concerns, but if you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and address some of the confusion surrounding this.

I hope this helps daydreamer99 and all goes well with your scan when the time comes. We're have our fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello daydreamer99. I am no expert but I think the enzyme that a tumour on the ovaries releases creates the elevated number, and so it is a good sign to have a low score, but they look at the scan results and the score and create a risk rating from it.  Wishing you all the best for your scan.
