Mole on sole of foot

Hi, just looking to see if anyone has went through anything similar. I’ve had a mark on the sole of my foot for a while now but not sure when it appeared. I had assumed it was a freckle but I had my feet check at my diabetes clinic and the nurse recommend I see a GP to be safe. She said it will likely not be anything but mentioned it looks like a mole and has a darker circumference. I have an appointment with my GP on Monday. Stupidly did some Googling and I’m a tad scared to say the least. It’s about 6mm wide and oval shaped. Tan /brown in colour and completely flat. Thanks for any replies ️

  • Hi,

It's good you have an appointment tomorrow. Moles that appear on the sole of the foot or palm of the hand are usually treated with a little more suspicion because of the location & skin type. A mole that's been there since birth & hasn't changed is fine. Don't worry if the GP refers you to dermatology because that's what they are supposed to do. Dermatology will check it using a dermascope (handheld telescope that shows if the cell shape is changing from normal). If unsure, they may suggest removal for biopsy which is the only foolproof way to know if it's malignant.

That said, I have had a mole removed from the sole of my foot & I know others who have had the same, and they were benign. It's always best to check! Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

  • Thanks so much for the reply Angie. Turns out it’s an actually over 1cm so GP has requested urgent referral. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious x
