Trying to stay positive whilst waiting for my breast clinic appointment

Hello, and thanks for being a listening ear as I'm not a talker and keep smiley and positive among family and friends.

I'm 53 and for just over 3 weeks, I've had pain in my left breast. I've checked myself and unsure whether I can feel any lumps or not. I thought I did but went back over the area and then couldn't feel anything. Anyway, as the pain hasn't subsided, I booked to see the GP and she said she thought she may have felt something but went back over it and couldn't feel it again, but she referred me to breast clinic on 2ww.

On the referral form, she ticked the 'fixated lump, skin tethering' box. I have just got my appointment through for the 12th August.

Usually, I have the attitude of don't worry until there is something to worry about ( I had a large lump a few years back that turned out to be a cyst and didn't panic while waiting then) but this time, I'm worrying myself silly. I don't know if it's because I'm in constant pain with this so I can't 'forget' about it as such if that makes sense.

Anyway, I've waffled on enough but know you will all understand and thanks for reading.

Much love to all

  • Hello Mellyroo

I'm sorry ot hear that you've had some concerns about your breast health recently. You did exactly the right thing in seeing your GP, and it's good to know that you already have an appointment date at the breast clinic. Hopefully when you see them in a few weeks they will be able to give you some reassurance.

It's likely that the constant discomfort you're experiencing is playing on your mind. Did you ask your GP about taking some pain relief to see if that might help in the meantime?

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. We have some tips to help you cope with waiting for news in this thread but you might also like to chat things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you want to talk with them, they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully your appointment next month will bring some good news. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
