Worried I have lymphoma

Hello,

I have just joined, as I stumbled upon this chat after a trip to a&e.
I went to my GP today with a hard immovable lump just in front of my ear probably the size of a 2p. It had been there for around 5 months or so painless and I honestly thought it was just my jaw playing up. The past few days I’ve been getting awful facial pains, shooting up to my head and pressure on the same side, it felt like my face would explode, the lump was also feeling tender. I’d been getting ice pick type headaches recently, but not that intense and put it down to recently needing glasses. My Gp sent me to a&e after examining me and said I had a fever. She thought I had an infection in my jaw bone.

I had my bloods done at a&e, all normal, had an Xray of my jaw which was also normal and I still had a fever, though paracetamol had brought it down. I was reviewed by the doctor and she noted how hard it was, she said she thinks it’s a lymph node. She then examined my head and neck and found a few more, which she said were firm and rubbery.
She kept asking me to each one “how longs that been there” “did you know you have one here”. She said she was referring me to ENT for them to look at and wants my gp to schedule an ultrasound. She said to me multiple times "i wouldn’t worry just yet”- which has worried me, just how she was looking at me! I’ve been really tired this past year, I only work 20 hours over two days and it then takes me a further 2-3 days to recover, but I also have 3 lively kids at home. Even on my days off I need an afternoon nap. I’ve also been suffering with vertigo for the same amount of time and aspiration but I didn’t think any of these were connected until now and now I’m really freaking out!
Please somebody put my mind at rest

  • Hello Bonjournomadie

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health issues over the last few months and that following a visit to A&E earlier this week, you've now been referred for an appointment with the ENT specialist. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about what may be causing the symptoms you've described.

Have you spoken with your GP about being referred for an ultrasound? Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for that appointment and it will be helpful for the specialist to have those results available when you see them.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult and it's natural to consider all outcomes. We have some information about how to cope with waiting for news that you might find helpful.

In the meantime, I wonder if you might find it useful to chat things through with one of our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them, they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you have some answers and reassurance soon Bonjournomadie. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
