HPV positive and low grade dyskaryosis - can cells change so quickly and what will happen during my colposcopy?

Hi guys, I recently did my smear test and it says I have low grade Dyskaryosis. I don’t mean to put my business out here but I am not sexually active I just started in March and I didn’t my smear test in mid June and the result says I have that. Now I am worried if it possible for my cells to change that quickly even tho I only had one partner. Now I have an appointment to do a colposcopy in August but I need to move it to September because I have a holiday book on that date. Now my concern is if I should cancel my holiday and attend to the appointment as I don’t know what to expect and I am really worried and stressed. I tried to speak to a gyny doctor and she wasn’t helpful at all. If anyone could help understand if it’s possible for my cells to change that quickly and if I should expect the worse and cancel my holiday and attend to the appointment early.

  • I have also been vaccinated for HPV in school*

  • Hi baronsUK and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I'm sorry for the stress and worry your smear test results are causing.

I hope this information we have about low grade dyskaryosis and HPV will ease your mind but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. With their knowledge and insight they will do all they can to answer your questions and support you in the run up to your colposcopy.

Hopefully some of our members who have had the same results will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice as well.

    Kind regards,
