Worried about my daughter

My daughter had early menopause. She has suffered with ibs and various stomach pains. During an ultra sound they discovered a 'mass' on one of her ovaries. This eventually disappeared but had on going pains off and on for few years. She is aprox a year late for her smear test, but last one was ok. Recently she had a bleed out of nowhere, that resembled a period, but had an odour. Bleeding stopped after aprox a week, had another ultra sound that appeared normal apart from a slightly thick endometrial wall. I believe it was 6mm and should be slightly thinner for post menopause. Gp referred her for urgent suspected cancer appointment. She attended and was given a cervical cuttage(apologies if i have spelt this inncorrectly) since then,a few days ago,she has had a brown coloured bleed, not heavy, but it has that strange smell again. We have a two week wait for results now and iam sick with worry

  • Hello Paramount

I'm sorry to hear about all that your daughter has been through. It sounds like it's been a difficult time and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious ahead of her results appointment.

If she's not already done so, then it's worth her getting in touch with her GP to mention this most recent bleed and the fact that there is a strange odour as well. It may be that they want to arrange an appointment to check that there is no infection that needs treating.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult. It's natural to have questions and concerns and at times this can feel overwhelming. If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that the specialists are able to give your daughter and you some reassurance when she next sees them.

    Best wishes,
