Awaiting emergency cancer screening that could take 3/4 weeks, really worried

Hi I’m due to have a cancer screening as I have been bleeding from my cervix, I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago, yet here I am with very painful cramps all round my pelvic area and lower back and extreme fatigue, being at work and attempting to go about my business and not fixate on this ,came to an end yesterday as it’s to uncomfortable to remain at work, but I don’t want to give into this , how can I refocus and remain positive while waiting for screening?

  • Hello Kathleen-

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently waiting for an appointment to investigate the symptoms you've described. It sounds like it's been a worrying time for you and it's understandable that you may be feeling overwhelmed by things.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face and it's natural that it can feel as though our worlds revolve around this while we wait for answers. You might find it helpful to read through this thread about how to cope with waiting for news

Some people find it helps to talk with someone about how they're feeling. If you would like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment and the specialists will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
