Exposure to asbestos

Hello,

I have been doing some paintwork on the apex of my house. I got paint on the undercloak and in haste I decided to sand (hand sanding) it to try and remove the paint. I spent 20 minutes sanding with no mask on, relatively close to the undercloak, I did also blow the dust off the paint on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately afterwards I realised that this undercloak is in fact asbestos and I am now really worried about how this may affect me. Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Hi Gareth

There is a lengthy thread on this forum covering asbestos. The consensus is that it is occupational  long term exposure that poses risk rather than a brief encounter. The asbestos cement type materials are fairly low risk. So allay your fears and finish your decorating.
