‘Likely to have breast cancer’ on referral paperwork - panicking!

Hi everyone,

New here!

33 year old single mum of 3 who is panicking beyond belief! I saw my GP on Wednesday after finding a lump in my right breast (12 o clock position).

Currently waiting for the breast clinic to contact me and make an appointment, but I’ve had my referral paperwork through and the GP has filled in the side that says ‘Please only complete this section if you feel this patient is likely to have breast cancer’, rather than the symptomatic side for 2 week wait. She’s ticked that I have a discrete, 2cm hard lump + fixation + tethering. No palpable LN which I’m taking as a positive.

Stupidly I googled (I know I shouldn’t) and now I’m in a state of absolute panic :( has anyone else been referred with this section filled out and it all turned out to be fine? I’m preparing myself for the worst.

I’m absolutely spiralling and can’t even look at my children without crying!

Thank you x

  • Hi lovely! Firstly I’m so sorry you’re really anxious about this and rightfully so. You can’t determine if something is cancer until it is biopsied so as much as the dr recons it might be one thing we don’t know until you get the biopsy/ scan done. It’s really good that your GP is taking you seriously by pushing for these tests. If she didn’t put down suspected breast cancer then you could be on the waiting list for over a year to be seen. And if it is worst case sinario 2cm is not terrible -can be fixed fairly easily as opposed to a later stage cancer and that’s just assuming the worst! It could be a cyst or maybe milk duct. All will be well. You’re doing amazing. Sending you the best of luck stranger <3
